Accidental African Slave Part 139

Author:

I woke up early Monday morning, knowing that Master Ansah would be leaving early, for his trip back to Araway’s mine. It would also be my first day of my third week, working as a slave at Master Ansah’s mine.

The guard was surprised to see we were awake, when he came to wake us. He opened the gate and was greeted by Kwaku, then he preceded to unchain Dauda and me. We quickly got cleaned up, and followed the guard to our eating shelter.

I heard the elevator start down, and was surprised to see Master Ansah. I quickly got up and dropped to my knees, bowing in front of the Master. He surprised me by saying, slave you my rise, he actually called me slave, then he laughed. The Master had brought our food down, and sat down to talk with us, while we ate.

He watched us eating, and continued to talk with us. Once we had finished, he got up and gave each of us a hug, saying he would see us later. I bowed as he left, and could feel tears forming in my eyes. Kwaku looked at me, and told me to calm down, and get ready to work.

Once we had gotten ready for work, the guard opened the tool shed, and we retrieved our picks and shovel. As we started work, I could hear the trucks start. I looked up and watched as the trucks crested the hill, then disappeard over the crest. I just started digging with my pick, trying to get my mine off Master Ansah.

We worked for the next four hours extracting the ore, and loading the ore carts. As usual Kwaku made me do the shoveling, saying I needed to increase my strength. I had to laugh, I was taking orders from a real slave. I didn’t care, because I had a lot of respect for Kwaku, and I liked the results of my shoveling. We worked this way until lunchtime, and the guard told us it was time to eat.

The Foreman came down with our food, then sat down and gave us a pep talk. He said he hoped we could finish, and hopefully leave on Friday. That sounded good to everyone, but it was really pleasing to Kwaku and Dauda. I didn’t make any response, because it wasn’t all that important to me. I noticed the Foreman looking at me, and he was shaking his head.

We went back to the slave quarters, and got ready to work. We then went back to work for the next five hours. I kept busy digging, shoveling, and taking the ore cart to the elevator. Once the cart arrives at the top, it’s emptied into.the ore truck. That work is done by some of the local villagers, that are hired to load the big truck.

This is our second truck to fill. The first truck had just left today, with Master Ansah, for its trip back to Araway’s mine. So we now kept busy, by filling the second truck.

After we had worked for the last five hours, the guard told us it was quitting time. Kwaku and I then went to shower, then started my training. I really put everything into my workout, trying to concentrate on wrestling, and not about this morning.

After Kwaku and I had finished my workout, the Foreman and Dauda showed up for our shower. We then went for our evening meal, and our time to rest. The Foreman brought our food down, and gave us his pep talk. He check on the work we had done, and to see what was left to be done.

Once the Foreman had left, the guard took us back to the slave quarters. Once we were ready to sleep, the guard chained Dauda and me for the night. Then he locked the gate, turned out the light, and left us alone for the night.

We now started our nightly conversation, and discussed the days happenings. Kwaku and Dauda mainly talked about going back, and.about what the Foreman had said. I was glad the Foreman had praised our work, and was looking foreword to leaving Friday. I didn’t say much, I just listen to Kwaku and Dauda talking about going back to Araways. I finally said I was getting sleepy, so we finally got to sleep.
