It had been about two weeks since Ayitey had returned to the pit, and I had been visiting him three times a day. His skin growth was really starting to take hold, and the lower layers were healing.
On this morning I went to see the doctor, and see what he had found the day before. He had done his regular examination on all the slaves, so I knew he would know how well things were going. He told me that with in a year it should be completely covered, and soon after it should heal completely. He said there could be a slight discoloration of the skin in that area, and that it may or may not last.
At lunch time I followed the food servers to the elevator, and once in the pit I got food for Ayitey and myself. I stripped naked and waited for him. We had our lunch, and I told him what the doctor had told me. The news seemed to excite him, and he ask if the doctor could regrow his pubic hair. I told him I was sure that was not within the doctore’s ability.
After lunch I got dressed and returned to the top. I then went to the doctor and told him what Ayitey had ask about pubic hair growth. The doctor told me I was right, that there was nothing he could do about hair growth. When I returned to the pit that evening I told Ayitey what the doctor had said. I applied his medication and ate with him, then returned to the top.
On the ride home Araway ask how my day went, and wanted to know about Ayitey. I told him everything went well with me, and that Ayitey seemed to have completely recovered. I thanked him for all his help and understanding with Ayitey, and his patience with me.
I got cleaned up for our meal, and went to the kitchen and helped Orsty. We had our usual talk, and I had to answer questions about Ayitey. I answered what I could, and stayed away from questions about Ayitey’s health.
