Accidental African Slave Part 141

Author:

Kwaku was awake before me, and he woke me with his moving around. Dauda was still asleep, but when I stood up, the sound of my chains woke him. We just waited for the guard to come for us, and talked about how long it would take us to finish today.

The guard came and let us lose, and we get cleaned up for our breakfast. We followed him to the shed, and was greated by the Foreman. He jokingly ask if we were ready to finish the job, and get ready for our trip home. He then said he needed to talk with Kwaku later, and he went back topside.

We started working with the digging, and as soon as we had enough ore for the cart, I loaded the cart. At this time the guard informed Kwaku the Foreman need to talk with him. He had Kwaku wash, and handed him clothes to wear, and then took him to the top. Kwaku was gone for sometime, before he returned, and he didn’t say anything. He started to work, but I ask him what had happened with the Foreman. He told us one of the men from his village had visited, and they talked. He said they discussed his situation, and what they had planed to gain his freedom.

We had finished digging all the ore well before lunchtime, and I finished loading the last ore cart, and took it to the elevator. I then joined the others, and the guard had us return our tools to the tool shed. We then cleaned up the area, and just waited for our lunch.

When the Foreman came down with our food, there was another man with him. He really gave me a looking over, and commented about the Foreman not kidding him. The man couldn’t believe he actually had a white slave working for him. Kwaku spoke up, and said this is my friend Zac, the one I’ve been training as a wrestler. Kwaku looked at me, and told me to say hello, to his friend Kossi, from his home village. I stood up and told him hello, and let him get a better look, because he was trying to get a good look at me.

We ate our food, while the Foreman and Kwaku talked with Kossi, about their village and people Kwaku might remember. Once we were finished, the Foreman told Dauda and me to go do what we needed to do, while they finished talking.

Shortly I noticed the Foreman and Kossi return to the top, and I heard a truck start up the hill, and disappear over the crest. Kwaku joined Dauda and me, telling us his friend Kossi was headed home. We went to the slave quarters to relax before our evening meal.

When we figured it was time for our evening meal, we returned to the shed. We just sat there waiting on time to eat, and talking about tomorrow. Soon the Foreman came down with our food, but he didn’t stay long, said he had to get things together for tomorrow.

While we were eating, a light rainfall began, and it soon intensified into a hard steady rain. We sat there waiting for the rain to let up, but when it didn’t the guard told us we need to get ready to sleep. He took down an umbrella that was there at the shed, and said he would go with us to the slaves quarters. Kwaku took off running, but Dauda and I just walked along with the guard. We were both naked, so why worry about getting wet. About that time there was a crash of thunder and lightning, so we took off running too.

Once we reached the slave quarters, Kwaku remarked about our staying out in rain and lightning. The guard let us dry off a little, before he chained us for the night. He made the comment, that he hoped this rain didn’t interfere with our leaving tomorrow. He then left locking us in, and turning off the light.

We just lay there watching the lightning show going on outside, and listing to the rain. We did do a little talking, but I think we were all thinking about what the guard had said. We finally fell asleep, once the thunder had stopped.
