Fire in the Firehouse 12

(Part 2 from 4. Fiction.)

Cole spotted a bunch of pine cones. He made a slight grunt sound, one that seemed like he was seeking approval for his idea. Mitch looked at what he had. "Eh, is this all we have? This sucks. How can we turn the tide with pine cones?" Cole didn't necessarily take it as the other was placing blame on him, but more disappointed over the lack of things to work in their favor.

Mitch thought long and hard. He and Cole had ducked out of sight behind a good sized boulder. He was able to peek over the top of the generous sized rock and spy the one after their lovers. As luck would have it, his powers came to light. His empathy came to light just as he needed it. He sensed the guy had a gun and planned on taking out the other two men. He could also sense the guy was not quite there. He knew instantly Marie was behind this. He knew he had to do something he'd yet to do. He had to reverse his power and turn this guy's emotions on him. He concentrated long and hard. It were as though he could feel a trigger inside him switch. He recognized this instantly. He knew he'd locked on to the guy emotionally.

Cole stood watching him. He looked on puzzled. He wasn't sure what was happening. He though maybe Cole was feeling the effects of his condition. He wanted to shake the man to see if everything was all right, but he sensed it not to be wise. He scurried off, being careful not to get lost and add to the problems.

As Colby and his friend stood in hiding, he sensed Mitch was there. It gave him some relief. Not since he called his lover did it occur to him that his lover had recently been through a semi tragic event. He began beating himself up emotionally, but stopped when he deduced there was no way out of the situation. He cleared his mind, knowing Mitch might be trying to communicate with him. He wasn't too sure entirely how his fiancee's powers worked. All he knew, he was here.

A few moments passed, the dark haired gifted man was focusing harder than he ever had. He was connecting deeper with the wicked and vile man. He'd found the area inside him he needed to connect with. The guy stopped dead in his tracks. Mitch slowly stood up, not knowing if any sudden motions might break the connection. He saw Colby peer his head out to see if the coast was clear. Mitch was able to slightly take a step back mentally and was able to indicate to his lover it was a good time to make a break for it. The four men together facing one would increase their odds of making it away from there alive, but it was the gun factor.

The man had no way of knowing he was being over powered mentally. He wasn't a strong willed person. Most likely walked on the darker side of life. Drugs, crime, all the stereo types. His weak character made him easy to manipulate. He'd had his gun pulled out all along and was flashing it about. The men watching him had reason to believe, based on the way he was carrying the gun he was slightly drunk or stoned and had seen way too many movies as it was apparent by the way he carried the gun.

Mitch hated himself for having to think this way, but he figured he might have to force the guy to kill himself in order to save them all. If not here, the guy might get orders again from Marie and he and his injured cohort would get the upper hand down the road somewhere. So much weighed on his mind, things he was not very fond of. But the other's and his safety might just depend on what happened next.

Cole had come back to Mitch's side. He was watching, and trying to put his finger on things. He knew what he was seeing made no sense. But he saw the course of things had started shifting to their favor. Colby grabbed Drake by the arm. He knew what Mitch was doing and saw it to be safe. They ran behind the guy so as to not raise too much attention. They had about 35 yards to go to be by Cole and Mitch. Colby knew how safe they'd be then. He didn't fully understand his lover's gifts, but knew they offered that much more protection.

With such a short distance to go, the two men running, even upping their pace and began feeling more at ease. They could soon leave and get back home and put this incident behind them. They all knew, even without talking about it that this freak was determined to earn his money.

In the most expected turn of events, the guy that had been rendered unconscious was suddenly awake, some dried blood on his head, but coherent enough to have gotten out of his car. As he walked up, he noticed the entire scene. The moonlight was shinning bright this mild summer evening. He saw it all. Cole and Mitch hiding, as well as Colby and Drake running and his buddy caught in a suspended state. "What the fuck is going on here? Who the hell are you freaks? What the fuck's wrong with him?" Mitch had to fight hard to maintain his connection. He wasn't well versed enough to fight off the on onslaught of spoken words. If he broke it now, they were all screwed.

Colby and Drake almost flew to Mitch and Cole. Colby drew upon Mitch for direction. There was nothing that could be done to save it. His secret had to be exposed now. He turned to look at Drake and Cole. "This is how it is," he began. "I'm a witch. And I have special powers. I'm an Empath and I also get premonitions. And its these powers that might just save our asses. Here's the thing: I'm new to them. That's why my hold on stooge one over there broke off." Both men looked at one another, barely unaffected. The one that felt it most was Cole. It now made perfect sense why Mitch seemed so in tune with him. He had an upper hand. He felt a little cold inside. It made sense how Mitch foiled his attempts in some regards.

The two vicious men, now reunited stood a better chance. They both had guns on them and they both blocked the known path back to Mitch's and Colby's trucks. Things were not working in their favor right now and matters looked very grim. Colby suggested they run into the trees and fast. Splitting up was not an option due to it being night and separating from each other was not wise, first chance to get free and they'd be gone.

Mitch began thinking. It would have to be up to him. And he had to move fast. He needed to get one of them to turn on the other. It dawned on him. "Colby, take Drake and Cole and hide out. I'm gunna climb this tree. I have an idea." Colby wanted to protest, but there was no time. The two vile men were moving swiftly behind them. Colby did as he was asked and got out of sight with the other two closely behind.

Mitch got up the tree steadily and swiftly enough. His fireman training proved useful. He got a good view of the two creeps. He knew he must tap into one of them and fast. Turning them on one another was their only link to freedom. The other three men were banking on him.
