I have read the Randall Penitentiary Story by Dexx in it's entirety. I, personally, have never been to prison as an inmate but have visited a local Medium Security prison many times. In fact, I had a crush on a young 20 year old named Shawn, who sadly threw his young life away to become an inmate, who I wanted nothing more than to go to bed with. I hyave heared of this very scenario happening and it is described extremely well. If you have the time, and you can find it, I highly recommend reading all the books in this series. It's cary but fascinating.
