Terra Nova part 1: The Resistance

(Part 1 from 1. Fiction.)

100% fiction!

I was 9 when they came. They came from the sky. first, they attacked the power plants, then the military. Nobody could stop them. Nobody knew why they were here, or what they wanted. They killed the president, the congress, the police, everyone. Then my mom and dad were killed. Then they came for me. I had to fight them. I killed one of them and ran.

10 years later.
World Population: 2,343,928,100 and dropping.

I heard the faint rumble of one of their tanks coming towards our position. Our 5 man team can't take on one of those things by ourselves. I look around the corner and see it's bright spotlight looking for any targets. The light passed by me and I quickly hide. "let them pass." I said. We got on our stomachs and remained still. It passed by us with it's light looking in our alley.

It soon got out of our sight and we crossed the street, guns in hand. We ran down the next alley until we got to the building. I knocked 3 times with a two second pause in between. The door opened and we walked in with today's take. 50 lbs of food, two more shotguns, an AR-15 assault rifle and about 300 rounds. And we found 25 gallons of gasoline. The big metal door closed.

That thing is built with their armor, so they will literally need to blow the thing off of it's hinges. This building houses the Miami branch of the United States Resistance Army (USRA) and is comprised of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Florida regiments. Each regiment has 500 civilians and 300 fighters. For a total of 5,600 survivors. The 4th Florida, our unit, is led by a man named Gaines.

The man in charge of the Florida resistance in a guy named Greenberg. He oversees everything, and his main priority is keeping the civilians safe, and taking back what's left of Miami. The invaders home base floats above the city in some sort of ship, and they are using the buildings as construction material for their permanent structure. We need to stop them from taking over the planet.

But the problem is, We are an army of Citizen Soldiers, Former police officers, firemen, some national guard personnel, doctors, mailmen, all who used to be a part of everyday life, now are fighting for survival. so our tactics have to be focused on hit-and-run attacks, sabotage missions, smash and grab jobs for food, etc. We rejoined our regiment and sat down at the cafeteria tables.

Our building used to be a five story High school, but now it's our home base. We have electricity Thanks to the generators, but we only have enough power for 12 hours. We only use the emergency lighting so we don't draw attention, and during the day, we black out. "Bauer! Greenberg wants to see you!" I stood up and followed Gaines to the War room. The heads of the 7 regiments were also there.

"Gaines, I'm putting you in charge of the 4th Florida with Bauer as your second in command, The 7th will stay here with the 4th. The 6th will head up alligator Alley towards Tampa and meet up with the 13th Florida. The rest will head up I-95 towards Daytona Beach." I'm splitting up the regiments into groups of 300 soldiers, and 500 civilians." he said. I looked at Gaines and he gave a look of disappointment. "sir." he said in a raspy voice.

"Bauer is inexperienced and has no leadership skills." he said looking back at me. "aww come on Mike. If anyone can teach him how to be a leader, it's you." he said. "alright, let's move." he finished. Everyone soon left except for the seventh because they are staying here with us. It's so quiet. I'm so used to noise and people. Now there's a little over 1500 people left in what used to be a base of over 5,500.

We only need to light the first and second floor, so that gives us an extra 3 days of power. I couldn't believe that it's been ten years since they came in late 2012. I remember when everything was normal, kids went to school, parents went to work, traffic jams, sports, Christmas with the family, but now it's gone. Now the new normal is not sleeping even though you try so hard to, walking around with a gun at all times, wondering; "am I next?" it's all too much to think about.

You never get a moments peace, not anymore. This world is too dangerous to ask for a moments peace, let alone asking for a day with no worry. You always have to be aware of what's around you, and always watch your back if your alone. "Bauer!" Gaines hollered from the war room. I walked into the room and he told me to sit down. He was standing over a map. "see this here?" he said pointing to an old railroad junction. "yeah." I said.

"if I remember correctly." he said. "their should be fuel there. At least 4000 gallons. We need to get as much of that fuel as possible." he said straightening up. "I agree."
"you don't have to agree. Those are my orders." he said walking out of the room. "pick your team. Good luck." he said.

walked downstairs. "listen up! We need fuel right now. Gaines says theirs a fuel depot not too far from here. We need to go there and grab at least 300 gallons by nightfall. So, Green, your the equipment specialist. I need you to build us a 300 gallon tank that can fit on the back of one of our F-150s as soon as possible.

Myers, Scavo, Porter, Stapleton and Eddie are tagging' along with Green and I. Let's move!" they started getting their weapons and ammo and headed out to the pickup trucks. "Jack. I found something'." green said. I followed him to the boiler room and found 3 100 gallon tanks that used to be for water storage back in the day. "good. Use as may people as you can to get these onto the truck." I said.

I headed outside into the dark night and opened the gate we constructed last April. The wall is about 7 feet high, has barbed wire on the top, and walking platforms halfway up so people can patrol. After an hour, the pickup truck with the tanks on them pulled out and so did the other truck with anti aircraft guns mounted on the rim of the trucks bed.

I hopped in the passenger seat of the fuel truck and drove about 12 miles to the fuel depot. We filled up the tanks and headed back. We were driving on the highway at about 60 miles per hour when lights came on and blinded us. We stopped the trucks. I grabbed my AK-47 and walked outside, closing the door behind me. "Stay here." I said.

I walked a little further when I heard footsteps. I put my gun up to my shoulder and aimed at the lights. "Jack Bauer, 4th Florida! Identify yourself!" I screamed. "IDENTIFY YOURSELF!" I repeat. "hold your fire. I'm coming' out." I recognized the voice. "well well... If it isn't Jack Bauer. Many many stories are flying' around about you. You've become a legend. Like how you killed one of their generals in cold blood with a hammer, or escaped a tank division totally unseen. Very good Mr. Bauer."

"what do you want Schepelle?" I said with my gun aimed at his head. "we want your fuel supply, and your guns." he said. "no way Schepelle. I got responsibilities now. Something that's completely foreign to you isn't it?" I said. The lights went out and our headlights showed us a road block and at least 100 men behind them. "fine. You won. Lemme get the keys out of the truck." I said climbing in. I picked up the CB radio, tuned to channel 30 and said. "when I give the signal green, you punch it in reverse. You too scavo." I said.

They moved towards the trucks. "NOW!!" I said as we lurched backwards. We spun around as guns fired off behind us. A bullet ripped through my window, shattering it. I duck just in the knick of time. The truck that was in front of us is now behind us, protecting the fuel tanks. We hit 70 in about 7 seconds and headed for an alternate route back to base. "Home base, this is Bauer. Package has been found and is en route.

ETA 22 minutes Out." "Roger, Bauer. This is big daddy 1, get here safe. Out!" the radio went dead, and 20 minutes later, we arrived back at the school. I climb out of the truck and look at the giant ship above us. Construction has begun, and it's only a matter of time until they get it built. We hooked up the tanks to the generators and we have power for at least a couple of weeks under the perfect circumstances. The question is, how long can we hold out here? I will soon find out first hand....
